Dr Marianne Gale appointed Chief Health Officer
Dr Marianne Gale has been appointed Chief Health Officer (CHO) and Deputy Director-General, Population Health Division, at Queensland Health. She will commence in the role on 1 December 2025.
Dr Gale is one of Australia’s leading public health experts, with extensive experience in communicable disease control, health equity, and chronic disease prevention. She is currently with NSW Health, where she has held senior leadership positions including Acting Chief Health Officer and Deputy Chief Health Officer. Earlier in her career, Dr Gale spent five years as a field doctor with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), delivering health programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region. Her career demonstrates a long-term commitment to improving population health outcomes both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Gale commented: “I am honoured to be appointed as Queensland’s next Chief Health Officer and Deputy Director-General Population Health Division,” and said. “I am excited about returning to Queensland where I grew up and began my medical career. I want to express my thanks for the warm welcome and kind messages.”
